Founded in Philly in 2023, IndependentSounds! is an annual festival of live opera and instrumental music designed to bring together life-long opera lovers and those seeing the art form for the very first time.

Opera is for everyone

Our core value at IndependentSounds! is that opera is for everyone: every age, every income, every race, every body type. We produce easily accessible bite-size operas (1 hour max) so our audience can check it out and see if they enjoy it. Any show in a foreign language is presented with English translations.

Pedagogical mission

Another aspect of our mission is to provide a venue for voice students of all levels to sing on a stage with professional singers and orchestra. This is an incredible learning opportunity for our singers who are interested in opera performance.

We believe that if you've never heard—and felt—opera sung live from a few feet away, then you haven't yet experienced the absolute thrill of this art form. We hope you will come and experience it with us!
